When Google bought Waze in 2013, it had been widely assumed it'd just be a matter of time before some of their traffic app's more popular features made their way on Maps. It has taken a while, but now it seems like Google is preparing to add episode reports -- a move indicated using an APK tear-down a few months back and, more recently, the look of this feature for some Maps users.
User submitted data -- in this scenario, the real-time reporting of collisions and rate traps -- is mostly exactly what helped make Waze popular enough for Google to need a piece of it at the first location. There is no word yet regarding if it'll rollout or when Google is just testing out things, but including this sort of feature is logical on Maps especially given the influx of additional fresh features that the app has found recently. Keep an eye out for a new report button on the Maps interface next time you've started using it onscreen.
